Bribed Ministers Are Not Guilty – GII

The Ghana Integrity Initiative (GII) has welcomed the decision by two of the implicated Ministers in the M&J scandal to tender in their resignation, by describing it as laudable.

Miss Linda Kwafo, the Programmes Manager of the GII, the local Chapter of Transparency International, who was speaking in an interview with PEACEFM’s Kwami Sefa-Kayi on “Kokrokoo”, also lauded the directive by President Mills that CHRAJ takes over the investigation of the case from the Attorney-General’s Department.

“…it’s assumed that if they stay in office, they might interfere with investigations…It also shows President Mills listened to civil society’s view on the issue. It’s a step in the right direction, which needs to be commended…,it’s not just a matter of stepping down…independent bodies like CHRAJ investigating the matter is better than the A-G doing that,” she said.

She cautioned against pronouncing the accused ministers as guilty and also called on the public to de-link partisan politics from the issue and treat it as a matter of national importance, since issues of corruption creates a bad image in the minds of the outside world about the country.

“…it’s very wrong for people to pass judgment and assumed that the implicated persons are guilty. These are all allegations…it concerns the whole nation. Issues like bribery allegations, influences the Corruption Perception Index (CPI), a comparative listing of corruption worldwide, which the Transparency International launches each year...”she advised.
