Castle sources say the President on Wednesday met Hon Muntaka at the Osu Castle, after receiving the report of the National Security Agency. Details of the findings of the Agency are not clear, but sources say the report generally cleared the Asawase Member of Parliament of all charges of financial malfeasance made against him by the on-leave principal Accountant for the Ministry. However, sources say the President is not likely to ask the Minister to return to post, in view of what one source called “serious moral issues” raised against the Asawase MP by the National Security Agency’s report. Wa Central MP and Minister of State, Hon Rashid Pelpuo is currently acting as the Minister responsible for Youth and Sports after receiving orders from the President to take over the Ministry until further notice. Sources say if the President decides not to re-instate The Asawase MP to his position at the Youth and Sports Ministry, Hon Pelpuo could be named the substantive Minister for the sector. Critics have faulted the President for referring the Muntaka scandal to the NSA for investigation, saying the Presidency was merely seeking to cover up for his Minister, using the Agency. The President’s critics say he should have handed over the matter to the Criminal Investigations Department for the appropriate action. Credit: Citifm |
